The Macao karate team participated in the Asian Karate Championships hosted in Kazakhstan in early July. In the men's individual 84 kg-above weight class, Lou Wai Kit won the only medal that Macao received in the Championships this year. As he received the medal in the Asian Karate Championships for the first time, Lou Wai Kit stated that, “Having joined the team for 12 years and participating in the championships for the fourth time, I finally won the first bronze medal, which was what I looked forward to for a long time. I hope that with this medal I can motivate myself and my teammates to practice continuously.”
The karate championships this year were hosted in Kazakhstan. The Macao team sent 8 male and 5 female athletes (13 in total) to compete. During the competition, in the men's 84 kg-above weight class, Lou Wai Kit won against contestants from Chinese Taipei and Kyrgyzstan. But in his third match, he lost to a famous athlete from Iran who was the champion in the World Karate Championships last year. Thus, he could not proceed to the finals. During the match for the third place, Lou Wai Kit beat the contestant from Jordan with the ratio of 1:0, after quickly recovering from the previous loss. He was awarded a bronze medal. Lou Wai Kit stood on the award presentation podium of the Asian Championships once again after he has received a bronze medal in the Macao East Asia Championships in May.
