The 2020 Galaxy Entertainment Macao International Marathon, jointly organized by the Sports Bureau and the General Association of Athletics of Macau, will be held on 6 December of this year. A press conference was held today (4 September) by the Organizing Committee to introduce the race details and registration arrangements. The press conference was attended by President of the Sports Bureau, Pun Weng Kun; President of the General Association of Athletics of Macau, Ma Iao Hang; Director of Galaxy Entertainment Group, Philip Cheng; Vice-Presidents of the Sports Bureau, Lau Cho Un and Lam Lin Kio.
Registration for marathon plus half-marathon and mini-marathon open to public from 12 and 13 September respectively
The Macao International Marathon, into its 39th edition, will be title-sponsored by the Galaxy Entertainment Group (GEG) for the 17th consecutive year. A total of 12,000 places are available, including 1,400 for the marathon, 4,800 for the half-marathon and 5,800 for the mini-marathon. The marathon and half-marathon races will start at 6am and the mini-marathon race at 6:15am at the Olympic Sports Centre Stadium; the marathon and half-marathon courses pass by the Governor Nobre de Carvalho Bridge and the World Heritage attraction A-Ma Temple and run along the Sai Van Bridge.
The registration for the marathon and half-marathon categories starts at 9am on 12 September (Saturday) and the mini-marathon category starts at 9am on 13 September (Sunday). Participants may register via the event’s website at www.macaomarathon.com or in person. Online and on-site registration will commence at the same date and time and will be closed when all places are taken.
For online registration, registrants with an existing account should prepare their personal information as well as an electronic copy of their identification document and membership card of the General Association of Athletics of Macau for the current year (if any). Users who have already opened a personal account online but have forgotten their user name and password may reset their password on the official website, while those who do not have a personal account may open one on the website. Upon successfully opening an account, participants may log in and register on the website from the start date according to the system instructions. Visa Cards, Mastercards and China UnionPay Cards are accepted for registration fee payment.
Registrants who opt for on-site registration may proceed to the Tap Seac Multisport Pavilion from 9am to 6pm on 12 and 13 September and should bring along the completed registration form, a copy of their identification document and membership card of the General Association of Athletics of Macau for the current year (if any), and the registration fee. For a trouble-free on-site registration, each person may submit a maximum of 15 registration forms each time; cash in Macau Patacas or Hong Kong Dollars (no exchange rate difference will be refunded) as well as Macau Pass and MPay are accepted.
In addition, this year the Active Group Trophies will once again be awarded to the school, sports association, government-registered organization, public and private entities with the highest number of participants who complete the mini-marathon. Interested parties that wish to compete for the trophy are required to download a separate registration form from the event’s website, complete the form with the names and identification document numbers of all the successfully registered participants and submit the form to the Sports Bureau via email at macaomarathon@sport.gov.mo or in person by 23 October.
The popular activities from previous years – ‘Join Us and Upload Best Shot to Win Lucky Draw’ and ‘Most Creative Costume Award’ will also be featured this year. Interested participants may download the ‘Macau Marathon’ mobile app and upload one photo related to this year’s marathon. The former is open to both runners and non-runners alike, while the latter is only open to runners in the 2020 Macao International Marathon.
Measures will be adopted according to the pandemic situation
In order to provide a safe condition for the participants, the Organizing Committee will pay close attention to the COVID-19 pandemic and will adopt preventive measures according to the guidelines by the Health Bureau.
The Organizing Committee reminds all participants that they must comply with Macao’s Law No. 2/2004 on the Prevention, Control and Treatment of Infectious Diseases, pay attention to and cooperate with the anti-epidemic measures of the Macao SAR Government. By submitting the registration form, participants clearly understand and agree to cooperate with the anti-epidemic measures of the Macao SAR Government. No cancellation or refund will be allowed for confirmed registrations.
