First Day of Macao International Dragon Boat Races 2020 Kicks off

Organized by the Sports Bureau and the Dragon Boat Association of Macao, China, and co-organized by the Municipal Affairs Bureau and the Public Administration and Civil Service Bureau, the Macao International Dragon Boat Races 2020 kicked off with small-scale dragon boat races at Nam Van Lake Nautical Centre today (21 June). After fierce competition among the teams, Suncity - Legend won in the Open Category of the Macao Small Dragon Boat Race (200 m).

The first day’s (21 June) races commenced at 9:30 a.m. After several rounds of competition, the teams which qualified for the Open Category Grand Final of the Macao Small Dragon Boat Race included SJM Golden Jubilee – A and B, Suncity – Legend, Wynn – Glory, Melco – A and Clube de Canoagem Baia do Mar. Suncity – Legend stepped up their momentum in the race and won first place with a time of 0:50.324, while SJM Golden Jubilee – B and SJM Golden Jubilee – A came in at second and third places respectively. In the Women’s Category, the Association of Macao Youth Development won the first place with a time of 0:57.135, while SJM Lotus – A and Clube de Canoagem Baia do Mar – Amizade ranked second and third, respectively. In the Macao Public Entities Small Dragon Boat Race, Marine and Water Bureau, Municipal Affairs Bureau and Macau Red Cross took first, second and third place, respectively. After three rounds of races in the Macao University Student Small Dragon Boat Race, University of Macau – A, Macao Polytechnic Institute and University of Macau – B won first, second and third place, respectively.

The guests officiating at the award presentation ceremony included Pun Weng Kun, President of the Sports Bureau; Lai Pak Leng, President of the Dragon Boat Association of Macao, China; José Tavares, Chairman of the Administration Committee on Municipal Affairs of the Municipal Affairs Bureau; Lau Cho Un and Lam Lin Kio, Vice Presidents of the Sports Bureau; Kong Chi Meng, Deputy Director of the Education and Youth Affairs Bureau; Lo Keng Chio, President of the Board of Directors of the Sports and Olympic Committee of Macau, China; Chung Hon Kun, Executive President of the Dragon Boat Association of Macao, China; Wu Chong Fai, Yeung Sai Ip, Ng Hang Fat, Leong Chong Leng and Ng Iat On, members of the Sports Committee; Chan Weng Kit, Vice President of the Board of Directors of the Sports and Olympic Committee of Macau, China; Chang Chin Nam and Kwok Po Chuen, members of the Board of Directors of the Sports and Olympic Committee of Macau, China.

This year’s event will continue to present performances and booths for creative products and local cuisines. With the dragon boat races, visitors will gain an authentic experience of Macao's dragon boat festival celebrations and the event will establish itself as a unique brand of sports tourism in Macao and facilitate the diverse development of the city’s sports sector.

In compliance with anti-pandemic guidelines, the Organizing Committee will continue to implement a series of preventive measures during the Races. All individuals must undergo body temperature checks, present ‘Macao Health Code’ and wear face masks upon entering the venue. The races will be broadcast live on the television channel TDM Sports in both Chinese and Portuguese, and on the event’s official website.
