2019-01-11

Participating teams in the 2019 Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Cup Regatta & Macao Cup International Regatta entered the second day of the competition in the conquest of the title. Due to low wind speed and foggy weather condition this morning, after delaying the start the racing committee decided to change the round-the-island race to course race upon safety considerations. After two days of competition, Team Wan Boo Fish Sailing from Macao and Team WYC Lake Constance from Germany continue to lead the standing in the the Greater Bay Area Cup Regatta and the Macao Cup International Regatta respectively.

In the fiercely fought Macao Cup International Regatta, Team Marenostrum Racing Club from France carried the form from winning Race 2 yesterday to win Race 3, followed by Team SUKPAI-Four Wind from Russia and Team Discover Sailing Asia from Singapore. Before the start of Race 4, the wind speed dropped from four knots to around one to two knots, and as a result the race distance is shortened to one lap.  The top three finishers in Race 4 are Team WYC Lake Constance from Germany, Team Estonia 100 and Team SUKPAI-Four Wind.

After four rounds of races in two days, Team WYC Lake Constance from Germany sit at the top of the overall standing with 12 points, with Team SUKPAI-Four Wind just a single point adrift in second place and Team Marenostrum Racing Club in third place with 16 points. Consistent performance in the two races today by Team SUKPAI-Four Wind won them the Daily Award.

The Greater Bay Area Cup Regatta is gradually becoming a three-way battle between Team Wan Boo Fish Sailing and Team SUGRAM from Macao and Team BLU from Hong Kong.  All three teams are the top finishers in today’s two races, with Team Wan Boo Fish Sailing and Team BLU winning the first and second races of the day respectively and Team SUGRAM scoring two second-place finishes. After three rounds of races in two days, Team Wan Boo Fish Sailing tops the standing with 5 points. Team BLU are closely behind on 6 points and Team SUGRAM are a further point in third. Team BLU won the Daily Award as a result of their win in the second race today.
