To let the youths in Macao know more about the SAR Government's sport-related policies, hear the opinions from the youths concerning the development of sports and encourage them to participate in sports activities by means of dialogue and exchange, the Sports Bureau held the event“Sincere Dialogue between Youths and President of the Sports Bureau - Pursuing your Dream”at 4:00 p.m. on March 30 on the 3rd floor of the Macao Olympic Sports Centre - Stadium, attracting more than 250 people, including young athletes from teams under the sports associations in Macao and young administrative staff members.
This dialogue event was officiated by Tam Iao San, experienced media practitioner. Pun Weng Kun, President of the Sports Bureau, provided information about sports policies through dialogues and exchanges. He shared experience and discussed with young athletes and listened to their opinions. He stated that athletes in different areas have different levels of competitiveness, growth experience and achievements. Although some athletes have not reached the level of an elite athlete, as long as they have the potential and are willing to devote more time to training, the Sports Bureau will be willing to invest more resources and hold an open-minded attitude. It will also be happy to listen to their opinions and suggestions, and propose improvement measures and conduct reflections. It will endeavor to actualize the shared goals. The athlete training and development centre established this year will provide comprehensive, systematic and professionalized training to athletes more effectively, create conditions to enable athletes to conduct training using good facilities, which aims to better develop and enhance Macao's athletic strength.
In terms of enhancing the professionalization in competitive sports and improving athletic competitiveness, the Sports Bureau has been actively exploring possible effective measures in collaboration with the sports associations and athletes. It has also been supporting and sponsoring competitive sports and endeavored to coordinate with the works of sports associations concerning different types of sports. It also assists in formulating short-term, mid-term and long-term training plans, establishes echelons and cultivates young athletes. Such ways include supporting sports associations into employing professional coaches and technical training staff, organizing regular training and outdoor training, optimizing training facilities and venues.
In the future, the Sports Bureau will advance its collaboration with the sports associations and closely communicate with the coaches and athletes. It will also employ more professionals such as nutritionists and physical therapists, so as to help athletes improve their competitiveness. It is expected that the athletes will remain well-equipped and will devote more time to training persistently, so as to fulfill their dreams.
