“The 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games”, which was hosted by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), took place from 17 to 27 September in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan. The Macao sports delegation, which participated in the Games for the fifth time, sent 57 athletes in total to engage in eight competitive events, including indoor track and field, Thai boxing, taekwondo, track cycling, bowling, international chess, short course swimming and dancesport. Dancesport athletes Tam Ka Pan and Vong Weng Lam were awarded a bronze medal in Viennese Waltz, which wasthe only medal that the Macao sports delegation received in the Games this year.
Many Macao Records Broken in Swimming and Track and Field
The delegation broke a number of Macao records in the Games of this year. In the track and field event, Lai Hou Tat, who was ranked the 8th in the preliminary and the final of the Men's 60m hurdle, was among the athletes who broke the Macao records; Loi Im Lan's result in the Women's 60m preliminary also broke the record. In the individual swimming event, Lei On Kei was ranked the 5th in the preliminary and final of the Women's 50m breaststroke, as well as the Women's 100m breaststroke final, breaking the Macao records three times. Lam Si Chong updated the records of Macao's best times in the 200m medley and 200m freestyle. In the swimming relay event, Tam Chi Ian, Lei On Kei, Long Chi Wai, and Choi Weng Tong were ranked the 5th and the 4th in the Women's 4x50m medley relay and 4x50m freestyle relay, respectively, breaking Macao's records. Chau Man Hou, Lao Kuan Fong, Siu Ka Kun, and Lam Si Chong also set new Macao records in the Men's 4x50m freestyle relay event.
OCA General Assembly
The Olympic Council of Asia held the 36th General Assembly during the “5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games”. The president of the Sports and Olympic Committee of Macau, China Lo Keng Chio, and vice president Pun Weng Kun attended the General Assembly together. Committees concerning 18 different issues were established under the General Assembly. Lo Keng Chio was the president of the Media Committee, and Pun Weng Kun was a member of the “Sports for All” Committee.
